Earlier this year, the James Connolly Festival commissioned 8 artists, to create modern interpretations and portraits of the trade union leader as part of this year's James Connolly Festival. Encompassing printmaking, graphic design, illustration, graffiti and visual art disciplines, from artists across Ireland and beyond, the collection presented new and exciting interpretations of one of Ireland’s most famous economic and political thinkers.

“For my submission, I envision a bright and engaging modern portrait of James Connolly as a way to celebrate his legacy. I plan to illustrate him in a side profile, with a reference to the Starry Plough behind him. The stars and vibrant colours in the portrait will add a sense of energy and modernity, while still maintaining the regal essence of Connolly’s significance.”
